It is said that “Man cannot live by bread alone ….” and I guess our sojourns are a testament to that. If there is a winery, we just might stop. Good place to get something light to eat and some refreshing “grape juice”. So this particular post in this series, is going to be devoted to some wineries we visited – actually only three – and some of the food we had. If one is on the coast – East or West coast, it makes no difference – one must have good, fresh seafood. And that we did.
We had to stop along the way to eat something. So before we left Boise, I made a Muffuletta and we stopped and had some. We also had a great ginger ale. Here is the Muffuletta Recipe. Enjoy!
Then as we passed through Hood River, Oregon, we just had to stop at the Naked Winery tasting room. Now this is a horse of a different color!
Robin is comfortable at in the tasting room. You can see some of their wines here.
Then we had to pick up fresh seafood at the NW Fresh Seafood Company in Newberg, OR and McMinville, OR.Really fresh and good seafood. We bought clams, fresh oysters, Dungeness crab and shrimp.
Then off to see Dorothy and Kai for dinner. That is what the seafood was for. Just look at that table! And yes, I did shuck the oysters without cutting myself. Kai had her first fresh oyster!
Here is the crab salad. Yummers!
Breakfast at Ikea. Swedish Meatballs and a cinnamon roll. Long day ahead.
Kim Kolb served us well with some interesting wines and conversation. Thank-You Kim! Kim is a wine blogger and can be found at Winey Women.
Their Riesling is superb. And yes, we did buy some wine here.
Also a good Pinot Noir.
The Marchesi Vineyards in Hood River, OR. is a great stop for the Italian influence in wine making.
They do have an awesome selection of Italian wines. Well worth a bottle! or two!
Enjoying the wine and the cheese/salami plate. Great olive oil, too. We bought a bottle.
But we had to stop visiting the wineries as the drive home was still 6 or 7 hours. Robin took this photo as we were driving along the freeway. Beautiful sunset/moonrise photo.
